The skin - facts-skin layer
The skin is our largest organ. It is a living mechanism which has several purposes. The skin's sole purpose is to keep all blood, fluid and other organs in place. Another function is to regulate the temperature, it protects against cold or heat, pollution and dangerous solar radiation, etc.
Moreover, the skin helps to cleanse waste from the body. The skin consists among others of 3 layers and hair follicles, sweat and, sebaceous glands.
The top layer called the epidermis called the epidermis. This is the layer can be altered. The epidermis consists of a mass of cells, various substances which both protects and converts dead cells to the stratum corneum (which is the part of the skin you can see and touch). The top dead cells are cells which have been pressed up from the underlying living cells. The living cells generate new cells by dividing into 2 and remains lying on one and the other starts to move to the surface.
The next layer of the skin is called the dermis. In this layer you will find tissue and sebaceous glands which give off a liquid known as sebum. Sebum is transported up through small ducts, and act as a protective transparent film on top of the skin surface. Sebum helps keep skin soft and supple, and it protects against foreign bacteria and contamination.
In the dermis, there are also various cells as a protection against ultraviolet rays. Moreover, there are 2 substances called collagen and elstin which helps give the skin suppleness, elastisiktet and strength.
The bottom layer of skin called the skin (also called adipose tissue) contains sebum, hair follicles and sweat glands. Fat tissue also helps the skin's suppleness.
